“The kitchen’s on fire.” Thomas was so calm you’d have thought this was normal, though his mother’s attempt at being domestic was anything but, as much as Liz wanted it to be.
“Liz, what are you doing?” Jack walked into the kitchen calmly as his wife slammed the oven shut, trying to hide any evidence of her failed attempt at baking cookies.
“Nothing. “ She said with the big eyes and fake smile Jack knew was a lie. “We should go get ice cream.” She shoved her husband out of the kitchen just before the smoke alarm started to blare.
